My proposed unit title is "Dem Bones". My unit is going to cover the human skeletal system. At the conclusion of this unit the students will be able to identify the bones of the cranium, face, neck, torso, arm, hand, leg, and foot. They will also be able to explain the importance of anatomy and physiology to the cosmetology profession. My essential question is going to be: How is Structure important? My unit questions are: Why is the skeleton system important? Why do cosmetologists need to study the skeleton system?
Content questions will be: How many bones are there in the human body? Identify the strongest bone of the face? Compare the bones of the skull with other bones of the skeleton.

  1. Ann, I think this looks good. It is obvious you have put a lot of thought into your essential and unit questions. They certainly have my curiosity piqued. I never thought about how much and how important it is that my hair dresser know anatomy and physiology!

  2. Ann, I like the overall look of your questions and how they address what you are trying to teach. When I first read the title and the start of your unit I thought that you taught science instead of cosmetology. Just shows how much I know. The only suggestion that I have is instead of maybe, "how is structure important?" try "Why is structure important?" I know its just a wording issue, but it seems a little clearer to me. But I don't profess to be an English teacher so I could be completely off with my suggestion.

  3. It looks like you are beginning to get a direction for your unit. For an EQ, how about "Is Form More Important Than Structure?"
