Student Centered Assessment
This module has helped me think about student-centered assessment in the following ways.... Peer assessments seem to not always be accurate. Students will always want to give their "buddies" a high score. Peer assessments can provide valuable information if done properly. If I can pair students to do facials on each other and have them assess each other accurately I would know what steps I need to re-teach or re-demonstrate. It is hard to assess each student on my own when I have a class of 20 students. I have learned that I can observe and intervene with peer assessments. Students can also do the assessment privately. You can also average the self assessment, peer assessment and the instructor assessment. I can also provide a rubric that is very specific and use Yes or No responses. They either performed the procedure or they did not.

My Thoughts on Disrupting Class
With all the changes in technology it would be hard not to expect changes in education. Our ultimate goal is No Child Left Behind. What will happen to students who do not have internet access at home? I have students who can not do assignments at home because they do not have the internet. I am excited to know that all students will have a lap top computer for class. I hope that this Intel class will better prepare me for this time. I want to be a "first mover" and be able to take advantage of the change instead of change sneaking up on me. My students could learn so much more than what I am able to present to them in class if technology became an integral part of my class.

My proposed unit title is "Dem Bones". My unit is going to cover the human skeletal system. At the conclusion of this unit the students will be able to identify the bones of the cranium, face, neck, torso, arm, hand, leg, and foot. They will also be able to explain the importance of anatomy and physiology to the cosmetology profession. My essential question is going to be: How is Structure important? My unit questions are: Why is the skeleton system important? Why do cosmetologists need to study the skeleton system?
Content questions will be: How many bones are there in the human body? Identify the strongest bone of the face? Compare the bones of the skull with other bones of the skeleton.

Module 1 Reflection
This module has made me think about my role as an instructional designer by emphasising the importance of project-based learning. Projects that require students to investigate problems and come up with solutions. I realize that I need to put in additional time researching ideas for projects.
